Chapter 11

It took Cal a little over two weeks after he woke up to be strong enough to go home. He walked out of the hospital with his head held high and one destination on his mind. Hopping in a cab that was waiting, he gave him Ashton’s address and rested his head back on the seat. He was actually a little nervous as he watched the other cars pass by. He didn’t tell anyone he was coming home because he wanted it to be a surprise. Closing his eyes visions of Gi flooded his mind. He couldn’t shake her or her memory. Every waking moment his mind was plagued with questions, the most frequent one was why?

Cal swiped away a tear that had managed to breakthrough his shut eyes. This was the hardest shit he’d ever had to go through. Feeling the car coming to a stop, he lifted his head just as the cab pulled up in front of Ashton’s house. Sitting up, he took a deep breath trying to clear his thoughts. Reaching in his pocket he grabbed the only cash he had on him which was 30 bucks that Ashton given him to get real food from the cafeteria. Handing the cabby the money, he hopped out with nothing but the clothes on his back. Walking up to the door, he adjusted his sweatpants before he knocked.

“Just a minute,” London shouted hearing someone knocking for the second time. Grabbing the baby, she put her on her shoulder and walked from the kitchen to the living room. Without looking through the peephole, she opened the door. “CAL!!!” she yelled jumping in his arms.

He laughed. “What’s up baby sis.” Hugging her and kissing her on her cheek, he then took the baby from her and did the same.

“Why didn’t you tell us you were coming home?” she asked as she closed the door behind them.

“The doctor just decided to release me last night and I wanted to surprise y’all,” he told her taking a seat with baby Ava on the couch.

“Congratulations, we’re surprised,” she laughed looking at him with wide eyes.

“Where’s Ash?” he asked looking around.

“He had to run out for a few, but he should be back in a little while. You hungry, I made some seafood pasta salad,” she asked heading into the kitchen.

Cal laughed. “Still stealing Gi’s recipes hunh?”

“Boy please; I perfected that recipe,” she laughed with him.

“Yeah, let you tell it,” he laughed at the memories.

She grabbed him a plate of salad and a cup of juice from the kitchen and sat it on the coffee table. Going back in the kitchen, she grabbed the baby’s chair and brought it to Cal so he could sit her in it. They chatted mostly about the baby, neither of them really wanted to bring up what happened in Jersey so they tip toed around it. Hearing the key turn in the lock, both of their eyes shot towards the front door.

“Hey baby,” London said when Ashton came into view.
